Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations
Permanent Mission of Denmark to the United Nations
“Danish Diplomacy in Action “
Geneva hosts key UN Headquarters functions, UN agencies, and other international organizations, employing over 9,500 UN staff—more than New York. The UN entities in Geneva address a range of issues, from human rights and emergency relief to health, environment, and labour relations. Geneva’s international status began with the International Red Cross in 1863 and continued with the League of Nations in 1920. Switzerland’s neutrality allows the city to host significant political negotiations and peace talks.
The Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN in Geneva represents the Danish Government in these organizations. It focuses on five areas: human rights, humanitarian issues, health, trade and disarmament. The Mission annually oversees around 6-800 million DKK in Danish development assistance to Geneva-based organizations.
On this exciting evening, our speaker will give us a historic background to diplomacy, frame the current geopolitical situation and challenges, take us behind the scenes of Danish diplomatic work and share his experiences as well as personal anecdotes, including the handling of Covid-19.
